Applicable Working Conditions of Vortex Flowmeters
Vortex flowmeters are widely used velocity-type flow instruments based on the Karman vortex street principle. With no movable mechanical parts, high measurement stability, wide turndown ratio, and low maintenance cost, they are suitable for flow measurement of gas, liquid, and steam in various general industrial working conditions.
Firstly, vortex flowmeters are ideal for clean gas and steam measurement. They perform excellently in measuring saturated steam, superheated steam, compressed air, nitrogen, oxygen, and various industrial process gases. They are widely adopted in boiler systems, heating pipelines, and gas supply metering due to their stable signal and zero drift characteristics.
Secondly, they adapt to clean and low-viscosity liquid working conditions. The instruments can accurately measure water, circulating cooling water, light oil, and low-viscosity organic liquids. They are commonly used for process flow monitoring and energy consumption statistics in chemical, power, and HVAC industries.
In addition, vortex flowmeters are applicable to medium-temperature and medium-pressure conventional working conditions. They feature strong temperature and pressure adaptability and can operate stably for a long time in general industrial pipelines. Compared with differential pressure flowmeters, they require fewer auxiliary accessories and simpler on-site installation and commissioning.
It is important to clarify their application limitations: vortex flowmeters are not suitable for high-viscosity liquids, severely dirty media with large particle impurities, or fluid conditions with severe vibration and strong flow turbulence. They are the most cost-effective universal flow measuring instruments for clean, single-phase gas, liquid and steam working conditions.
